Here are the (currently) functional races in our world of Altherra. What does this mean? We’re still very much in the development stages, so this is still a work in progress. Here are the races we plan to offer once we go live at this point in time. There has been talk of barbarians being a playable race, gnomes, half-sentient magically created servitors who now have their own freewill.. but how those can be played differently than what we have already listed has become a task in itself.
We’re still trying to implement as many races as can be justified within our world, but the races listed below are what we have already implemented. If you have a feedback, or suggestions, shoot an email to outlander@legends-reborn.com, or leave a message in the comments.
Humans
Humans are the most varied and vast race in Altherra. Humans generally have shorter lifespans than the other races, with the exception of the Halflings – who have a knack for shortening their lifespans – but tend to try and make the most out of the years they are given. While not as strong as Dwarves or Ice Elves, as nimble as Halflings, as magically adept as Elves, Humans come close in all respects of these races and share few of their weaknesses. Humans tend to seek adventure, fame, and wealth. They have been known to fight like lions when pushed.
Elves
Elves are known for being intelligent and noble; the protectors and ushers of Nature, and unfortunately, being quite weary of strangers and other races. They have been known to live for hundreds or even thousands of years; though, because of this they can sometimes be cold or unfeeling to other races. Elves are magically adept – some of the greatest mages of all time have been Elves. Elves are skilled craftsmen, and are artisans of shaping wood.
Dwarves
Dwarves are a stout race who have made the Hills and Mountains of Altherra their home. Dwarves are incredible craftsmen. They take great pride in their abilities to mine the earth and construct armor, weapons, furniture, and clothes. They are also great and noble warriors that are known for not giving up in a fight until either their dying breath. They hardly refuse a party or chance to put a bully in their place.
Halflings
Halflings are the cousins of the Dwarf. Halflings are normally short, slight of build, and dexterous. A well trained Halfling can sneak into the most guarded area. Steal what ever they find to be of value and sneak out with out being discovered. Halflings are known for getting into trouble. Relying on their ability to survive or escape danger, they demonstrate a daring that many larger people can’t match. Halfling clans are nomadic, wandering wherever circumstance and curiosity take them.
Drow
Drow are the cousins of the Elf. In ages past, there was a war amongst the elves. The Elves that lost the war were driven deep underground, and became the Drow. While not inherently evil, Drows possess an immense capacity for hate, and tend to be cold, if not hostile, towards strangers. Drows are magically adept, and have become incredible warriors while facing the horrors of the deep in their dark exile.
Ice Elf
Ice Elves are a hostile and brutal race. They came from a land beyond the northern sea. Ice Elves enslaved the Gnomes of Altherra long ago to near extinction. In recent times, Ice Elves have been known to be Assassins, Mercenaries, or Highwaymen. They are seldom seen in groups.
Half Elves
Half Elves are the offspring of Humans and Elves. Half Elves tend to live in human cities, as they feel closer to their Human . Half-Elves have curiosity and ambitions like humans but they have sense for magic and love for nature like their elven parents. Their skin is paler than human skin and they are taller and bigger than elves. They struggle to find a place in either human society or elven society, but are generally not fully accepted by either. They retain the strengths of both races, and are suited for many paths in life.
What about other half races? Half Dwarves, Half Ice-Elves.. are these playable races? Does each Race have a “town/city/village”?
Also, these avatars are awesome and kind of creepy!
We are still debating on whether or not to add additional races to that list but the ones above are the ones we have already working in-game. The general idea is to make the races unique enough so that each race can stand apart from another while at the same time not being so drastically different that one would be superior to another. If you have any ideas for additional races feel free to make suggestions on the forums. We are more than willing to consider implementing any good ideas into the game that crop up from the community!
