IRC: How to connect

This is a how-to guide on how to connect to the Legends Reborn IRC channel. If you’ve never used IRC, which is Internet Relay Chat, it’s not very difficult and can be a great way of getting people in our community together. I’ve put together a guide on how you can connect to our server, but please keep in mind that the rules of our community apply even here. Please be respectful.
1) Obtaining an IRC Client

There are many, many different IRC client available; some are available as stand-alone programs like xchat or mIRC, others are built into a multi-chat program such as trillian, or pidgin (which is the one I use), while others can be used right from the web. For simplicity’s sake, I’ll be using mIRC for this tutorial – but the settings applied here should be fairly universal. Your first step is to download mIRC from here: download. Once you’ve downloaded mIRC, you’ll be prompted with a screen.

Go ahead and click next – the installation is fairly automated, save for two or three times when it asks for permission to continue on it’s merry way.Once you get to the end, you’ll see a screen that asks you to finish. Before clicking finish, if not already checked, check the box that says “Run mIRC”. This should automatically start the program.

2) Configuring mIRC

Upon first starting the program, you should be presented with a screen similar to this. Fill in your name, email address, and your nickname – which is whatever you want to be known as in the community. From here, go ahead and click on the “servers” section right below Connect.

There might appear to be a myriad of options, but we’re only looking for DarkMyst, the good folks who are hosting our IRC channel. Lucky for us, this list is alphabetized.

Go ahead and click on select once you’ve found the DarkMyst folder. Upon doing this, you’ll be presented a screen that asks which channel you want to join. Simply type in #legendsreborn – and you should be all set. Click join, and voila! You’re in.
